What Returnpass is
Returnpass records what a business has sold and what it has delivered. It is a record, not a bank and not a payment processor. Money between a business and its customer is collected by that business through its own checkout, and never passes through us.
The obligation is the business’s
When a business issues a prepaid pass, the promise to provide those visits is theirs, not ours. If a business closes, stops trading, or refuses service, Returnpass cannot deliver the visits or refund them. Customers should take that up with the business.
Cancelling does not strand customers
If a business stops paying for Returnpass, every pass already issued keeps working. Visits can still be redeemed and wallet passes keep updating. Only issuing new passes stops. We will not hold a customer’s prepaid balance hostage over a bill between us and the business.
Accuracy of records
The visit ledger is designed to be append-only and auditable, and a balance cannot go below zero. Staff can make mistakes; owners can reverse entries with a reason, and reversals stay visible in the history. Returnpass reports are operational records. They are not reconciled accounts, tax calculations, or bank settlements, and should not be relied on as such.
Your responsibilities as a business
You are responsible for what you tell customers a package includes, for collecting payment lawfully, for honouring the visits you have sold, and for the personal data you choose to record about your customers. Do not record more about a customer than you need.
Pass links are bearer credentials
Anyone holding a pass link can present it for a visit. Treat it like a gift card. We are not able to tell who presented a link, only that it was presented.
Paying for Returnpass
The Free plan carries five active passes and costs nothing. Paid plans are billed monthly in US dollars through Stripe and renew automatically until you cancel. An active pass is a customer who still has visits left, or a loyalty card partway to its reward; passes that have been fully used stop counting toward your plan.
You can cancel at any time from the billing portal. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for — you keep the plan until then, and we do not refund part of a month. Changing plan mid-month is prorated: you are charged or credited the difference for the remainder of the period. Prices exclude any sales tax, VAT or GST that applies where you are; Stripe adds it at checkout where we are required to collect it.
We may change prices, and will give at least 30 days’ notice by email before a change affects you. If you subscribed at a promotional or founders rate, that rate continues for as long as your subscription stays active. It does not increase when the list price does. If you cancel and later resubscribe, the price then current applies.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product changes. The date at the top always reflects the current version, and we will email merchants before any change that materially reduces what they get or affects passes already issued. Continuing to use Returnpass after a change means you accept it.
Language
Returnpass is available in several languages. These terms are written in English, and the English version is the one that governs. A translation is provided for convenience only.
Pilot status
Returnpass is an early pilot. Features may change, and we may contact you about problems. We will give reasonable notice before any change that would affect passes already issued.
Ending it
You can stop using Returnpass at any time and ask us to export or delete your data. We may suspend an account that is being used unlawfully or to defraud customers.
Liability
Returnpass is provided as is. We are not liable for lost business, lost revenue, or indirect loss. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada.
